Makes approx 10 small apple pie turnovers
INGREDIENTS:
2-3 tbs butter
2 - 3 cooking apples peeled and sliced
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 tbs sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1-2 tsp Chai Masala (or as per your taste) If you don't have Chai Masala then you add the following: 1 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom, 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg.
1/4 tsp salt
2-3 tbs of milk for glazing
1 packet of square sheet puff pastry thawed (approx 10 small squares)
For the sugar spiced drizzle:
3 tbs water
1/2 cup Icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp elaichi (cardamon)
METHOD:
Heat the oven to 180 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place butter in a pan and melt. Add the sliced apples and cook for 8 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Add walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, chai masala and salt. Stir for a couple of minutes and then take off heat and allow to cool.
Take a square pastry sheet and spoon apple and walnut mixture in the centre and fold the pastry in half to form a triangle shape. Brush the pastry with milk. Place the pastries onto the baking sheet.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the pastries are golden brown. Let the pastries cool on the baking sheet.
Prepare the sugar spiced drizzle. In a bowl mix together the icing sugar, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon and cardamon.
Serve the pastries warm with ice-cream. Drizzle the sugar mixture over the pastries and ice-cream before serving.
Enjoy!
